FAKTR: Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM)
Swank Chiropractic Sports Medicine offers FAKTR to assist athletes looking
for improved performance or breaking the barrier of pain & limited range of
motion as a result of injury to the soft tissue & underlying fascia. The
technique utilizes instruments that provoke the soft tissue to react &
rebuild while in static, active & resistive positions while utilizing the
same principles as the Graston technique. Dr. Parker Neill, in our Cary, NC
offices, is Certified in FAKTR neuromuscular techniques & soft tissue work.
What is FAKTR?
FAKTR (pronounced FACTOR) is actually a concept, not a
technique. The acronym refers to Functional & Kinetic Treatment with Rehab.
Co-Developed by Dr Greg Doerr & Dr. Tom Hyde, FAKTR incorporates the latest
research & evidence-based soft-tissue techniques into a comprehensive
protocol to treat common musculoskeletal disorders & complicated injuries
quickly & easily with impressive results. FAKTR is a form of instrument
assisted soft tissue mobilization (IASTM) addressing the function &
treatment of the kinetic chain while utilizing various forms of
rehabilitation at the same time. This approach targets the position of
provocation (pain, loss of range of motion, feeling of tightness within the
fascia/soft tissues) & during motion sets FAKTR-certified providers in a
class all their own. FAKTR incorporates all of the above variations to
evaluate & treat soft tissue/fascial conditions.
How does FAKTR work?
FAKTR works by breaking down adhesions within the muscle & fascia to promote
better movement, while also reducing pain & stiffness. Treatment also
reduces swelling, promotes improved blood flow, & encourages correct
fibroblast proliferation & alignment. Not only does this speed up the
healing process, but it can also lead to better overall healing & improved
function once recovery is complete.
Conditions successfully treated with FAKTR
FAKTR successfully treats variety of musculoskeletal conditions including;
tendinopathy, sprains, strains, entrapment syndromes, myofascial
restrictions such as plantar fasciitis, ITB syndrome, adhesive capsulitis,
shin splints, DOMS & post-surgical recovery.
Who is the ideal patient for FAKTR?
If your exercise routines include high intensity workouts (HIIT), such as CrossFit, play a professional sport, or simply suffer with scar tissue from improper posture, FAKTR yields excellent results.
While FAKTR is a great way to treat athletes quickly, the concept can be applied to all ages & all body types. FAKTR is excellent for those involved in auto accidents, work related injuries, sports injuries, post-surgical work including joint replacement & conditions of daily living
